Getting Started

In order to get a Rainbows site started in your conference, we suggest you do the  following:
  1. Order the DVD, I Need Somebody, from Rainbows (or phone 800-266-3206) and show it to your conference president. Point out its potential for evangelism in the community where this fills a very real need. It helps church members to get involved in outreach and to minister to their own grieving families. Contact our office for brochures and photocopiable material to show what Rainbows is and why it is important.
The cost is $1250 for the start-up materials and about $70 per person being trained. But NAD Children's Ministries offers a significant subsidy for the training and start-up of member church sites.
Two conferences so far have embraced Rainbows in this way--none have declined. Ask the president to OK the use of evangelism funds for Rainbows start-up, to provide the venue for the fall training, and maybe even a meal for volunteers and trainers.

  2. Set a date for training, usually in the fall, when the president can be there long enough to welcome people and affirm their decision to come. Having this date ready to announce helps pastors to take you seriously and get moving right away when you go to them.

  3. After you sell the president, ask to show the DVD to the pastors at workers' meeting. At that meeting, show the video and let them respond. Discuss the need of hurting children and how they often get in trouble with the law if their grieving goes on without intervention.
Explain the cost and subsidy and announce  a training date for the conference. Pastors will have to find 3-4 facilitators and a coordinator for their church Rainbows site. Provide photocopied  commitments for pastors to sign on the spot, stating that they would like someone to come to their church and show the video. (This is where  your trained Registered Director can help you with recruiting.) Collect the commitments. Not all will commit.

  4. Follow up with phone calls to set a date for visiting churches of committed pastors. There you have prearranged time to show the video, explain the program, and ask for volunteers to take the training--at least 3-4 facilitators and one coordinator per sit. Two churches may cooperate to run one site. But usually each church becomes one site.
